After researching other films under the social realism genre we realized that there was a large variation on the amount of language used in the trailers that we looked at. Our main influence throughout our whole project was the film “Gimme Shelter”. Although we took many ideas from the trailer itself, we did not follow their ideas about the amount of language they used. We wanted our trailer to be very visual throughout as well as the main focus of the audience to solely be on the story of our protagonist, as we need to make sure that they feel sympathy towards her. This is why we only include one piece of dialogue in our trailer at the very beginning. This shot is off our antagonist saying “That’s about right” as he adjusts the camera. We felt it would be a good place to put this part as we needed it to be clear from the beginning that he is trying to film our protagonist.

Initial Shooting

Below are some pictures from our initial phases of shooting:

When setting up this location we placed provocative photos of our protagonist around some school toilets, we used masking tape to secure them to the walls and placed them around and in the sinks to make it look more rushed.

We wrote various insults on some of the photos in thick red pen, we thought this would cause more shock for the character and helps to show the level of abuse she is receiving throughout the school. These insults include 'slag', 'slut', 'bitch' etc...

After we had finished shooting we made sure to remove all of the photos and dispose of them appropriately so no one else could see them.

Audience Feedback

Due to some of our material in our trailer being classified as adult content we have to create awareness of what parts these are.
1) Although there is no nudity in our trailer, it does insinuate the idea of nudity and sex. This automatically is something we have to take great care in and make sure that we choose a suitable certification for our film.
2) The use of train stations have to be accounted for as there is a danger while filming with them as there is a risk of danger if people are not aware of their surroundings while they are filming.

After showing our first draft, we received some audience feedback including things people liked, disliked and their overall impressions of the trailer. 75% of our responses said that they were impressed by our opening, with the remaining 25% finding it average. Our genre is clear as everyone knew the trailer was Social Realism, and the responses that we intended for where given, with emotional responses like "really intrigued and sad" and "i'm holding back tears".

Due to the constructive criticism received from our first viewing we have decided to take out the itching shots as we believe it isn't needed to show the protagonist's decline. To link the beginning to the rest of the trailer we have inserted a black screen with message alerts playing as this emphasises our theme of the dangers of technology. Our font was not ready for the first viewing but has now been changed also. 

We also discovered that our music in the second half of the trailer was copyright free, so had to find another peice of music for the second half of the trailer. We actually preferred this music, and found it very effective as it was slightly contrapuntal.
